Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Artificial Intelligence are established technologies, individually proven to be revolutionizing and finding application in almost every business domain.

Robotic Process Automation has reduced human intervention in monotonous tasks that people dislike or find difficult to handle. It can generate accurate and instant output, when processing through manual workflows becomes impractical, slow and error prone. RPA tools run customer service worldwide, delivering high quality customer experience. RPA automates time and resource- consuming repetitive activities and will do exactly what it is trained to do. It is customized to comprehend business specific procedures and execute them. It can effectively handle complex and high-volume data. It can free knowledge workers to focus on more creative tasks.

Artificial Intelligence can mimic human like reasoning capacity to automated solutions making them flexible and adaptive. It can generate more informed solutions based on historical data and can make contextual choices and can handle unstructured data sets.

Intelligent Automation (IA) seeks to combine the rule based automation of RPA with the self-learning capacity of AI. We foresee a system that can perform both physical and cognitive tasks, process vast amount of information, analyze it, spot inconsistencies, verify accuracy, learn in the process, adapt to changes and maybe even guide the decision making process.

IA can find application in almost all industrial sectors. It must open up new ways to rethink company operations, with next level software based operations.

IA in the Manufacturing Sector
The manufacturing sector is poised to see drastic changes in processes and environment. The factory floor should evolve over time with collaborative robots. Procurement, ordering and scheduling can be effectively streamlined. Predictive analytics solution should help us anticipate errors and help initiate corrective action before the equipment is affected. Machine Vision is a technology that can find application in the area of quality inspection and assurance.

When technology leaders and business leaders collaborate to leverage their expertise, Intelligent Automation could have the capacity to exceed expectations in terms of increased efficiency, leading to tactical and competitive advantages

We expect IA to positively impact the logistics and transportation industry too. Process orchestration for multiple departments and multiple locations in combination with route optimization can be game changers for large and decentralized manufacturing facilities.

IA and Cybersecurity
Cyber attacks are becoming more sophisticated, more threatening and more expensive. At the same time, the enterprise’s own systems and infrastructures are becoming more integrated and complex. This raises the need for cybersecurity automation and security intelligence. Cybersecurity automation and intelligence should define a structured way to identify and detect security threats. It should also be able provide enhanced protection against security breaches. A robust information risk management program will help in responding to and recovering from security threats while reducing human dependency.

The process of Intelligent Automation must be viewed as an ongoing journey and business process optimization and change management must be the companions on this journey.

When technology leaders and business leaders collaborate to leverage their expertise, Intelligent Automation could have the capacity to exceed expectations in terms of increased efficiency, leading to tactical and competitive advantages. It could help in broadening business horizons and even be a step in future-proofing the company.
