| |DECEMBER, 20248TECH MINTZOMATO RECEIVES TAX DEMAND NOTICE OF 803.4CRORE FROM GSTTNDK, TCS INK FIVE YEAR DEAL TO PROVIDE ITIS-MANAGED SERVICESFood and grocery delivery major Zomato has received a tax demand notice of 803.4 crore from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) authorities, as per reports.This comprises a tax demand of 401.7crore as well as a comparable amount for penalties and interest.The claim relates to tax obligations that have not been fulfilled between October 29, 2019, and March 31, 2022.During the JulySeptember quarter, Zomato recorded operational revenue of 4,799 crore and a net profit of 176 crore.The matter concerns whether delivery fees received by aggregators like Zomato and Swiggy are subject to taxes. According to the sites, gig workers act as delivery partners and get paid according to the number of orders they fulfil.Except in loyalty programs where the platforms waive the fees, users are charged for this delivery. The gig workers are charged this delivery cost.Food delivery is a service subject to 18 percent tax under GST legislation, and the government believes that because the platforms have been collecting a service charge, they should be responsible for paying the tax.In December of last year, Zomato received a show-cause notice from the GST authorities.Based in Bengaluru the show-cause notice was also given to Swiggy, which went public last month, in December of last year. Swiggy claimed to have received a show-cause notice for a 326.8 crore tax due in its IPO prospectus. Telenor Denmark (TnDK) and Tata Consul-tancy Services (TCS) inked a five year deal to offer ITIS-managed services.The partnership denotes TCS's European delivery center to manage TnDK's IT infrastructure.With more than 1.6 million users, Telenor Denmark is said to be Denmark's second-biggest cellular provider. Whereas TCS has modernized TnDK's IT infrastructure by utilizing its machine-first delivery strategy for the past six years.Louise Haurum, Chief Technology Officer of Telenor Denmark said, "Our partnership with TCS has been an important factor in driving innovation and ensuring resilience in our IT infrastructure".TCS is observed to share a long track record of working with more than 160 telecom companies across the globe. Five of the top ten telecom operators worldwide, four of the top six in Europe, and six of the top seven in North America are served by TCS, which employs 35,000 committed experts.Vikram Sharma, country head for Denmark at TCS said, "Telenor is one of Denmark's largest telecom companies helping to connect people and businesses easily and securely. Communication is a key critical infrastructure, and we are proud to have been trusted by Telenor Denmark over the next five years to ensure a resilient and automated IT environment".Along with this alliance, TCS and the Bank of Bhutan have worked together to use the TCS BaNCS Global Banking Platform to modernize the bank's digital core. The goal of this project is to streamline the bank's operations and smoothly incorporate public services into Bhutan's digital environment.
