According to reports, OpenAI has hired Sarah Friar, the former CEO of social media firm Nextdoor, as its first chief financial officer.
The artificial intelligence company also named Kevin Weil, who previously worked at Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as chief product officer.
Friar previously served as Chief Financial Officer at Square and is also a member of Walmart's board of directors. She also previously worked at Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, and Salesforce.
“Sarah and Kevin bring a depth of experience that will enable OpenAI to scale our operations, set a strategy for the next phase of growth, and ensure that our teams have the resources they need to continue to thrive,” says OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
The new appointment follows OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, who was replaced by Jakub Paczocki in May. Paciocchi previously served as Director of Research at OpenAI and led the development of GPT-4 and OpenAI Five.
After Altman returned, Sutskever was removed from the board and his position within the company became unclear
After Altman returned, Sutskever was removed from the board and his position within the company became unclear. Andrei Karpathy, an artificial intelligence researcher and one of the founders of OpenAI, left the company in February.
OpenAI announced in March that it had appointed new directors, including Altman, former Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation CEO Sue Desmond-Hellmann, former Sony Entertainment President Nicole Seligman, and Instacart CEO Fiji Simo.
