Amazon has inaugurated its first Amazon Future Engineer Makerspace in Bangalore this week, totally free of charge.

The objective of the program is to provide around 4,000 low-income children from grades 5–12 with practical experience in robotics, artificial intelligence, and 3D printing by 2025.

A set of classes is expected to be conducted for students of all ability levels.

Inaugurated in Malleshwaram, in partnership with The Innovation Story as a knowledge partner, the e-commerce giant stated that students can learn, experiment, and work together with their companions under the close watch of their teachers.

“For beginners, there are short, 3-4 hour programs to learn basic robotics and coding. For those who want to learn more, there are longer, 6-hour programs,” Amazon said.

While it added that students can explore advanced topics that delve deeper into robotics, programming, prototyping, and design over the course of two-day or month-long courses.

The initiative is said to allow both teachers and volunteers to guide students in their journey to cultivate crucial skills like coding, problem-solving, and design thinking.

“This unique blend of technology, mentorship, and hands-on experience empowers students to become future-ready innovators,” Amazon added.

The e-commerce giant has also allotted certain spaces within the building to enable students to build, design, and test their robots.

The objective of the program is to provide around 4,000 low-income children from grades 5–12 with practical experience in robotics, artificial intelligence, and 3D printing by 2025.

Over 17,000 schools have received computer science instruction thanks to the company's current partnerships with 11 non-profit organizations, which have impacted over 2.9 million students and trained over 16,000 instructors nationwide.

The Makerspace is a component of the Amazon Future Engineer Program, which is a bigger initiative.

India Lead for the Amazon Future Engineer Program, Akshay Kashyap, said, “This state-of-the-art facility will provide thousands of young minds with the tools, knowledge, and mentorship they need to become future innovators.”

He added that these services will inspire more students to pursue STEM courses. “This is just the beginning of our commitment to fostering digital equity and creating opportunities for all.”
