Assam Rifles Sets Up Anti-Drone Devices in Manipur's Imphal Valley
To safeguard against any "rogue drones," the Assam Rifles has set up anti-drone devices in the outskirts of Manipur's Imphal Valley.
Before handing it to the force deployed in the state, the Manipur-based CRPF has tested the anti-drone device.
Currently, the CRPF is deploying more anti-drone weaponry.
Manipur Police has also started the process of acquiring anti-drone weapons to counter the attacks.
Reports claim that Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh had requested the federal government to not accept the demand made by Kuki Zo organizations for a separate administration.
After the incidents on Saturday which resulted in the lives of six individuals, security has been increased throughout the state.
Since September 1st, the situation in the northeastern state has gotten worse as militants have started using drones and rockets in addition to more traditional weapons like rifles and grenades. Originally ethnic in origin, the dispute between the Kuki tribal populations and the dominant Meitei has evolved into a major security issue.
In the meantime, a notification stated that prohibitory orders were put in place in Jiribam district on Saturday night, prohibiting the meeting of five or more people.
Drone attacks were a novel tactic in the ethnic hostilities in Manipur that claimed over 200 lives since May of last year.
On September 1, in Koutruk village in the Imphal West district, the first instance of the remote-controlled small flying device being used as a weapon was observed. Nine people were hurt and two people died in the incident, which also involved the use of weapons.
The following day, three people were hurt when drones were used once more in Senjam Chirang, which is around three kilometers away.
