According to reports, Fujifilm Electronic Materials, the semiconductor solutions arm of the digital camera maker, plans to enter India soon and is in talks with several companies to provide end-to-end chemicals and solutions used for the manufacturing and packaging semiconductors.

Tetsuya Iwasaki, the general manager of Fujifilm's electronic materials business division says, “The Company was in advanced stages of exploring joint venture opportunities as well as the possibility of leasing their proprietary technology licenses to Indian companies.”

Established in 1983, FUJIFILM Electronic Materials is a wholly owned subsidiary of FUJIFILM Corporation and supplies semiconductor raw materials to companies such as Samsung, Intel, Micron, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

The company has recently launched Nanoimprint Resist. The Nanoimprint Resist is a semiconductor material compatible with nanoimprint lithography semiconductor manufacturing technology. It will be provided in Japan through FUJIFILM Electronics Materials Corporation, a core company in the electronic materials business.

The electronic material business division has 20 production sites and six research and development sites worldwide, including Japan, the US, Belgium, Taiwan, China, and Korea

Demand for higher-performance advanced semiconductors is expected to grow, driven by high-speed and high-capacity communications through 5G/6G, the expansion of autonomous driving, and the spread of AI and metaverse.

Last year, nanoimprint lithography was commercialized as a new manufacturing technology that can produce high-performance semiconductors at low cost and low power consumption.

Unlike photolithography, widely used in semiconductor manufacturing, nanoimprint lithography does not require development and rinsing processes for exposure or complex optical systems.

“The electronic material business division has 20 production sites and six research and development sites worldwide, including Japan, the US, Belgium, Taiwan, China, and Korea. It has also planned new production units in the UK, France, Italy, and Singapore over the next few years,” says Tetsuya.
