India's growing presence in technology and software development received recognition from GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dohmke, who heads the world’s largest software development platform, took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to commend India’s rapidly expanding developer community, calling the country's rise as a tech leader 'inexorable'.

Now the fastest-growing developer population on the planet, India’s rise as a global tech titan is inexorable

Dohmke underscored India’s impact with statistics from GitHub’s latest data, revealing that developers worldwide made 5.2 billion contributions to projects and created 108 million new code repositories in 2024 alone. He highlighted that India now boasts the fastest-growing developer community on GitHub, signaling the nation’s expanding influence in global tech.

“Now the fastest-growing developer population on the planet, India’s rise as a global tech titan is inexorable,” Dohmke wrote, adding a national flag emoji to represent India.
Prime Minister Modi responded with his own post, praising the country’s young tech talent. “When it comes to innovation and technology, Indian youth are among the best!” Modi wrote, recognizing the contributions of India’s youth to the country’s growing tech reputation.

His administration has advanced digital transformation with initiatives like Digital India and Startup India, aiming to establish India as a major digital innovation hub.

The growth of Indian developers on GitHub reflects a broader trend of India’s increasing presence in global tech. With thriving tech cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad and a rising population of tech-savvy graduates, India is positioned to become a leading force in software development.
