Government to Make AI GPUs Accessible in 18 to 24 Months
According to MeitY secretary S Krishnan, the government hopes to have artificial intelligence graphics processing units (GPUs) accessible within the next 18 to 24 months as part of its Rs 10,372 crore AI Mission.
The IndiaAI mission has suggested using a public-private partnership (PPP) paradigm to collaboratively approach government funding for the development of AI chips.
The financial investment of Rs 10,372 crore would also strengthen the IndiaAI Startup Financing system, making it easier for aspiring AI firms to obtain funding and accelerating their transition from product development to commercialization. Funding provisions for industry-led AI projects that promote social impact, entrepreneurship, and innovation are also included in the proposal.
The IndiaAI Innovation Centre (IAIC), a preeminent academic establishment that guarantees efficient execution and the retention of outstanding research personnel. With the Cabinet's approval of funding, IAIC will be able to lead the way in the creation and implementation of fundamental models, focusing on native Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) and domain-specific models that make the most use of edge and distributed computing.
To ensure data-driven governance and to catalyze AI-based innovation and research, the Independent Business Division (IBD) of IndiaAI will be developing the IndiaAI Datasets Platform, which will be given a boost to improve accessibility, quality, and utility of public sector datasets.
