More Customers to Shop Online this Festive Season, Companies Prepare for Sales Spike
More Indian customers plan to shop online while companies buckle up for a predicted spike in sales amid festive season, according to a survey by market research firm Ipsos Research on behalf of Amazon India.
About 89 percent have expressed that they are eager for the celebrations, about half voted to shop online saying that they would spend more than they did last year prior to on holiday purchases.
This behavior appears to reflect in both tier-2 cities (43 percent) and metro areas (55 percent) with populations ranging from 10 to 40 lakh.
The survey indicated that there are over 73 percent of participants preferring Amazon for their holiday needs, 75 percent said that Amazon India has a large variety of products, 72 percent revealed merchants on the platform offering good discounts, and 73 percent spoke about the e-commerce giant being a reputable and trustworthy place to shop online.
The report highlighted convenience as a key factor, with 76 percent of respondents praising the flexibility to shop remotely at any time and from any location. About 74 percent pointed towards fast delivery at scale, 75 percent hinted on trust in the legitimacy of products during online buying events and 75 percent revealed the easily accessible payment methods like free EMI, are other important aspects that propel online shopping.
The report showed that about 35 percent of consumers largely prefer Amazon above other retailers when buying clothing, shoes, and fashion accessories and 34 percent for beauty products.
About 73 percent of respondents revealed that shopping online is most preferable as everything they need for celebrations is available in online sale events during festive seasons.
With 64 percent of customers choose UPI when they shop online, digital payment options are becoming more and more popular.
Electronic gadgets / products are also highly shopped by consumers during holiday seasons, 69 percent betting on the trust factor on online shopping events to make these kinds of purchases.
Approximately 80 percent of respondents expressed interest in buying a smartphone in the Rs 10,001 - Rs 30,000 price range during celebratory online shopping events. Midrange smartphones fall within this price range.
With 64 percent of customers choose UPI when they shop online, digital payment options are becoming more and more popular. Furthermore, 82 percent of respondents said that UPI is their preferred digital payment method for receiving rewards and cashback.
