According to reports, French electrical equipment maker Schneider Electric is working with Nvidia to develop designs for data center cooling systems for use in new artificial intelligence data centers.

Data centers employing Nvidia's flagship server, which will be released early next year and houses 72 of its most potent AI chips, will use Schneider's innovations. The agreement's financial terms were not revealed.

The most potent models of those servers will need liquid cooling to function, and each server rack will use up to 132 kilowatts of power.

Data center building and reconfiguration have exploded in response to Nvidia's decision to move most of its processor range to liquid cooling.

The decision by Nvidia to transition the majority of its chip range to liquid cooling has sparked a rush to build and reorganize data centers to make room for the new chips.

It is heavy lifting on both sides. We take care of everything that is outside of the servers, and Nvidia is working on what's inside the server

Aparna Prabhakar, senior vice president of the secure power division at Schneider says, “The Company worked with Nvidia to design a range of cooling system options that can be scaled up or down, depending on how many Nvidia servers are being installed and how much power they consume.”

“It is heavy lifting on both sides. We take care of everything that is outside of the servers, and Nvidia is working on what's inside the server,” says Aparna.

In 2023, Schneider, which last month ousted its CEO, inked a contract with Compass Datacenters to deliver $3 billion worth of electrical equipment over five years as part of its efforts to grow its AI data center business.
