Swiggy Launches Initiative to Raise Food Hygiene, Quality Standards Among Restaurants

After undergoing over seven million customer reviews, Swiggy launched an initiative called Swiggy Seal to raise food cleanliness and quality standards across restaurants functioning on its platform.

The foodtech major is aiming to make its presence reach over 650 cities by the end of this year.

The Seal initiative is believe to serve beneficial to restaurant partners through comprehensive customer feedback on aspects like packaging quality, cooking methods, and contamination avoidance.

This Swiggy Seal symbol can be found on the menu pages of restaurants that meet Swiggy's sanitary standards.

The foodtech major’s move of joining hands with FSSAI-accredited organizations is seen as a way to help restaurants maintain hygiene and will be provided affordable tools and services like pest control.

The foodtech major also plans to educate restaurant partners on best practices for hygiene by providing training and sharing information through informative webinars.

These sessions are expected to be conducted by industry professionals who will cover important subjects like proper cooking techniques, preventing contamination, and food handling.

"As Swiggy marks ten years in food delivery, we continue to believe that access to clean, hygienic food is as important as food that tastes great," said Deepak Maloo, Head of Customer and Restaurant Experience at Swiggy.

Deepak went on to say, “With the introduction of the Swiggy Seal, we hope to provide our restaurant partners with useful information to assist them improve their levels of hygiene”.

Swiggy stated that it intends to keep an eye on and evaluate the hygienic practices of eateries that have been awarded the Seal in order to guarantee accountability. Swiggy will examine any complaints against a restaurant that has the Seal and may remove the emblem if the establishment does not uphold the required standards.

Swiggy has announced ambitions to deliver quick-to-prepare meals from well-known eateries and QSRs to customers within a 2-kilometer radius. This will include foods that need little preparation time, such as burgers, hot and cold drinks, breakfast foods, and biryani. Additionally, it will highlight foods that are ready to pack, such as snacks, desserts, and ice cream.
