Tata Electronics Acquires 60 Percent in Pegatron Technology
Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) announces the acquisition of a controlling 60 percent stake in Pegatron Technology India Private Limited (PTI). This follows Tata Electronics’ acquisition of Wistron’s India operations (based in Narsapura, Karnataka) less than a year ago in March 2024.
The company says the latest acquisition furthers "Tata Sons’ Chairman N Chandrasekaran’s vision of significant investments by the Tata Group in electronics manufacturing".
"As part of this deal, in addition to acquiring a majority stake in PTI, TEPL and PTI will work on integrating their teams to work seamlessly. PTI will undergo rebranding to reflect its new ownership structure and business direction while continuing to deliver high-quality electronics manufacturing services. This acquisition solidifies TEPL’s position as a key player in the Indian electronics manufacturing sector," says Tata Company.
Pegatron India, a subsidiary of Taiwanese company Pegatron Corporation, provides electronics manufacturing services (EMS) to global giants like Apple and exports products across North America, Asia, and Europe.
Tata Electronics and Pegatron were negotiating in April 2024 to buy the majority of the latter's India plan
TEPL also provides electronics manufacturing services (EMS) for smartphones through Tata Electronics Systems Solutions, previously Wistron Infocomm Manufacturing (India).
Tata Electronics and Pegatron were negotiating in April 2024 to buy the majority of the latter's India plant.
In November 2023, the Taiwanese business Wistron's iPhone division in Bangalore was purchased by Tata Electronics for $125 million.
