Tech Mahindra, Universal Scientific Industrial to Open Development Center in Bangalore
One of India’s renowned IT services providers, Tech Mahindra (TechM), has teamed up with Universal Scientific Industrial (Shanghai), a manufacturer of computer storage devices and electronic design, to open a development center at its Bangalore office.
This is said to be the first offshore development center (ODC) allocated for engineering that USI has established in India.
The development center is housed in Tech Mahindra's Bengaluru office and is expected to spur innovation in smart device engineering, the company claims.
There is also the goal to grow its technical capabilities in India, as the facility represents a significant milestone for USI in improving hardware design, testing, and device software development.
“This collaboration aims to provide scalable solutions, accelerate time-to-market, and deliver innovative advancements. It will leverage Tech Mahindra's specialised talent pool and advanced labs, focusing on technologies expected to drive the future of connected devices, additive manufacturing, connected vehicles, and augmented and virtual reality”, according to the company.
In particular, USI wants to take advantage of Tech Mahindra's experience in scalability and flexibility, quicker product launches, and access to specialized facilities and capabilities.
“We are delighted to collaborate with USI to launch a first-of-its-kind engineering development center…We are positive that this collaboration will pave the way for device software and hardware design advancements, ultimately setting the stage for future partnerships," said Narasimham RV, president – engineering services for TechM.
The center will also offer a wide range of services, such as advanced hardware and printed circuit board (PCB) design, middleware, board support package (BSP), device driver engineering, Android telephony, modem software development, and more. The company stated that TechM will improve its modem, radio frequency software, and visual bar development capabilities as a result of this partnership.

USI is a division of ASE Technology Holding Co., a semiconductor manufacturing services company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, which specializes in electronic design and production for SiP (System-in-Package) technology. Across the four continents of Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa, it operates 31 production and service facilities.
