According to reports, the mines ministry plans to set up a program management unit to facilitate the development of people affected by mining-related activities and effective coordination with the states for smooth implementation of Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana.

In 2025, the government initiated the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) to benefit regions and communities impacted by mining activities, utilizing resources collected by District Mineral Foundations (DMFs) according to the mining legislation.

Consequently, the Centre instructed the relevant State Governments to include the PMKKKY in the regulations established by them for the DMF and to execute the mentioned Scheme.

The mines ministry stated on its website that it is implementing several initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the District Mineral Foundation/ Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana.

The Ministry of Mines intends to engage a consulting firm to establish a Program Management Unit aimed at supporting the development and welfare of mining regions and affected individuals while ensuring effective coordination with the State Government and DMF Districts for the seamless execution of PMKKKY in accordance with the objectives outlined in the PMKKKY guidelines.

Last year, the mines ministry released the updated PMKKKY guidelines to expand the scheme's outreach and to promote sustainable overall development in the areas impacted by mining.

As per reports, at least 70 percent of the DMF funds will be allocated solely to the directly impacted area

The updated PMKKKY guidelines 2024 urge DMFs to focus on meeting targets for the Aspirational Districts Program and Aspirational Blocks Program, directing resources and funding towards development initiatives in these specified districts and blocks.
