Wipro, an IT services company, has promoted 25 employees to vice president positions and six employees to senior vice president positions.

The advancements followed a string of high-profile departures at the nation's fourth-ranked software services exporter, which industry observers perceived as an attempt to reduce senior-level attrition.

In the last year, a number of high-ranking executives have departed Wipro, including Chief Financial Officer Jatin Dalal, Chief Growth Officer Stephanie Trautman, and Head of Digital and Cloud Barath Narayanan.

According to Xpheno statistics, attrition in India's IT and consultancy organizations across AVP, VP, and SVP roles was 11 percent in fiscal 2024, a 4 percentage point decrease from the previous fiscal.

Wipro confirmed the move saying it was part of its ”ongoing commitment to developing strong internal leaders”.

Analysts argued that the company's decision to promote fewer senior team members during the current fiscal year was a reflection of its poor performance.

Of the top four IT companies in India, Wipro, under the leadership of CEO Thierry Delaporte, is probably the only one that saw a drop in revenue at the conclusion of the fiscal year.

The advancements followed a string of high-profile departures at the nation's fourth-ranked software services exporter, which industry observers perceived as an attempt to reduce senior-level attrition.

It promoted a record 73 workers in its last promotion cycle in January 2023, elevating 12 to SVP and 61 to VP positions.

Wipro's Chief Delivery Officer Ajit Mahale, Capco's CFO Benjamin Simon, healthcare portfolio leader Anuj Kumar, Canada country head Kim Watson, Europe cloud sales head Srinivasaa HG, and head of its cloud arm's strategy and execution arm Satish Y are among those promoted to SVP posts.

”As the demand shifts for more specialized talent, the slower number of promotions could help them with capacity to hire for later in 2024 to 2025,” said Ray Wang, principal analyst and founder of Constellation Research.
