First 'Made-in-India' Chip in 2025, Says Ashwini Vaishnaw

launched in December 2024.
Vaishnaw remarked that industry participants have demonstrated strong faith in India's semiconductor initiative while speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. “For materials, from parts per million purity, we need to go to parts per billion purity levels. This requires huge transformative changes in the process, and the industry is working to achieve this,” the Minister added.
In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Semicon India program, which would invest a total of Rs 76,000 crore to expand our nation's semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem. To support its semiconductor industry, India is also drawing large foreign investments. Analog Devices is working with the Tata Group to investigate semiconductor production in India, and NXP Semiconductors intends to invest more than $1 billion to quadruple its R&D efforts in the nation. In Gujarat, Micron Technology is establishing a $2.75 billion manufacturing and testing facility that is anticipated to generate 15,000 community jobs in addition to 5,000 direct jobs.
