At the moment, every nation is at a different stage of evolution when it comes to Aerospace and Defence capabilities. The defence sector in India is finally opening up, evolving or updating itself in-tuned with the latest advancements happening all around the globe. This is where Gurugram based Kasstech Aerospace, a DPIIT registered startup has been actively involved in providing technical solutions to solve some of the pressing challenges in the industry with unique integrations, and also offering maintenance and repair services for Indian aircrafts and UAVs as well aircraft for flying training.
In a recent conversation held between CIOInsider Magazine and Vivek Saxena, Director, Kasstech Aerospace – the veteran leader with more than 30years of experience in the Indian Defence, Aerospace technology and Aviation sector gives us a deeper understanding about the work engagements conducted at Kasstech Aerospace.
In conversation with Vivek Saxena, Director, Kasstech Aerospace
How does Kasstech leverages technology across the limitless scope of aero- space, Aviation and Defense segments? Where is the company positioned in the industry as a solutions provider?
We are authorized distributers for Diamond Aircraft and Austro Engines. In India there is already a fleet of Diamond Aircrafts. Through our MRO, we are providing maintenance services for them including repair of aircraft and engine overhaul. We have a team of certified engineers who are able to not only able to repair and maintain both airframe and engines but also provide maintenance support to large UAV’’s.
Furthermore, we are actively working with DRDO in the development of MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) UAVs. These are Aircrafts in themselves, and are about 2.5 to 3 tons of weight. We basically provide the Propulsion Systems and integrate them onto the airframes. Integration of these engines is a very complex task involving several hundred components and a good knowledge of thermodynamics and aerodynamics.
We are in the process of establishing an aerospace consulting capability with the ability to do various CFD Analysis. A composite manufacturing facility is also the next step in our roadmap to evolve into a company providing a full range of solutions to the aerospace sector.
We are working actively in the aviation sector with a thrust on making flying easy and accessible to a large segment of the population .This is through small aircraft which can be an efficient/low cost means of transport between two points in a 1000km radius. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and aegis of “Skill India”, we are participating in a renewed thrust to build capability in the country to train pilots in India on the latest training aircraft and simulators.
At the moment, the vast majority of CPL pilots are trained abroad due to the paucity of contemporary training aircraft in India. We are actively working to change this.
Our unique technology solutions from Meggar are able to effectively provide predictive maintenance for these underground cables and thus contribute to uninterrupted power to key industrial facilities
On another note, we are working with Flir - a US based company dealing with Infrared Thermal Imaging Systems. These are basically in very simplified terms, Thermal Imaging Sensors, similar to Camera like devices that have the ability to pick up temperature differences by sensing heat emitted by objects. Apart from providing different applications, we are also conducting R&D on developing specific applications for the Indian market. These sensors range from Large ‘Gimballs’ which form part of aircraft avionics systems of aircraft to small “cores”. These cores form the heart of various thermal imaging instruments and equipments.
The other application area is also on the industrial side, where with the help of the infrared sensors, we are able to create automation solutions. For instance, in the power industry with the help of our advanced heat detecting sensors and monitoring substations, we are able to detect problems even before the actual breakdown of power grids.
We also provide unique solutions to the power sector in the field of underground power cable maintenance. Our unique
technology solutions from Meggar are able to effectively provide predictive maintenance for these underground cables and thus contribute to uninterrupted power to key industrial facilities.
Tell us about your Solutions. What is the kind of technology capabilities that we are talking about?
The propulsion system sourced from Austro Engines of Austria is the best in its class globally. With a high TBO and extremely low fuel consumption, these engines are the most efficient in its class with the lowest cost of operation. By integrating them into our ‘Made in India’ UAV’s, the Indian industry is able to manufacture UAV’s with world class performance capabilities in endurance and surveillance.
These Engines also power Diamond Aircraft of Austria. These aircraft are latest state of the art with full glass cockpits and a fully composite aerodynamic airframe .The cockpit is so designed that it is a perfect training aid and students who train for their CPL on Diamond Aircraft are able to transition to flying commercial jet aircraft relatively effortlessly. These aircraft, when mated with the Austro Engines, are the most efficient flying machines in their class in every sense, both aerodynamically as well as least cost of operation per flying kilometer.
The sensor solutions from FLIR are also the leading edge of technology in the field of thermal imaging .By developing unique solutions around these sensors, we are able to genuinely make them as our “sixth sense” with the ability to detect heat and thus have a myriad of applications ranging from medical and .industrial to defense.
We also provide unique solutions to the power sector in the field of underground power cable maintenance .Our unique technology solutions from Meggar are able to effectively provide predictive maintenance for these underground cables and thus contribute to uninterrupted power to key industrial facilities. These state of the art solutions can not only locate cable faults in underground cables without digging, but rather can also predict when the cable might fail!
What is the unique proposition that Kasstech brings to the table? What are some of the latest challenges that you solve for your clients?
Our unique proposition is the ability to solve customer problems with the application of technology. Our team is well qualified with a very good industry experience. We are able to leverage that industry experience with the knowledge of technology to solve client problems across the domains of aerospace, defence, industrial and power sectors.
